I'm now going to be regularly streaming my painting sessions on Twitch. I also broadcast whatever happens to currently be playing in my iTunes library, so if you're into various forms of metal with the occasional classic rock and pop song, come on down.

NDK 2012

2 min read
NDK and the 102 photos I took were a rousing success! Thanks to everyone who so quickly viewed, favorited, commented, and added me to their watch due to my pictures. Unfortunately, a bunch of the photos I tried to take didn't save because I was still learning the ins and outs of my new camera and I misunderstood the directions in the quick start book. I found a really great Ryuk cosplayer whose photos didn't get saved, so wherever you are, you did a great job and I wish I still had your pictures.

I pretty much accomplished all that I wanted to with my cosplay this year, as I started planning it back in the spring. My goal was to make a militaristic version of Itachi's Akatsuki garb, so I bought bright white army spats (which I still can't find being sold by anyone other than the vendor I used), jungle boots from a military surplus store, SWAT tactical pants, and some under armour. My only plans to improve the costume for next year are to buy the GE licensed necklace, which I saw in person for the first time this weekend, and continue to adjust the jungle boots, which I had to cut into to reveal the toes. They scratched up my feet pretty good, so hopefully I can do some things to make that not happen next time.

Despite how many shots of ourselves that we took, it still wasn't enough for me. I didn't get the chance to take any at night and I realized I didn't have nearly as many of myself with my goatee as I planned, but there was one shot in particular that more than made up for it. I have some beginning plans for some alternate costumes for future conventions, but you'll all find out about those when the time comes! Stay flamin'!

NDK 2011

I got back from Nan Desu Kan in Denver last night and it was fantastic. I'd never been to a convention before and I always wanted to be a part of one since I was in middle school. I grew up with Gundam before it even came to America, so even though I'm not a big Japanese culture fanatic anymore, I was still extremely excited to attend my first convention. As my photos show, I cosplayed as Itachi along with two of my friends who went as Tobi and Sasori.

Walking around, finding groups of other Akatsuki, getting our photos taken, and simply being a part of the fun was a great experience. I even experienced a couple of odd questions and requests, including a marriage proposal. :lmao: I'm still trying to work the excitement out of my system in order to return to my everyday life, but where's the fun in that? I have too much thinking about Wasabi Con in March and NDK 2012 to do!

It's been a very long time since I last updated my journal because I get so little input from the community that I didn't bother writing about my life. I just went through and deleted all but my last three entries because of how ridiculous and embarrassing they were. All that aside, I'm a pretty happy guy right now. I'm living on campus at UCCS and I'm making good progress with my character designs, so that has been going really well.

I finally got a sketch book, so there won't be any more line paper drawings submitted around here anymore. ;) I'm working on current iterations of character concepts from my original storyline, which is in desperate need of a title. Though my dreams of making that into a video game will more than likely never be realized, I will be starting a comic for it sometime within the next few years. The idea was initially Multifire's and he expressed his desire to help get it published and all that. His help could be useful considering he is pursuing a degree in journalism at the moment.

That's about all I've got for now. Whether this journal is read or commented on is, more or less, unimportant. I simply felt it was about time this old thing was updated.
